LOVING ART
DEADLY SINS SERIES
“Deadly Sins” by Houda Bakkali – An Intersection Between Art, Augmented Reality and Self-Expression
This is a very special and very personal work, which arose spontaneously and viscerally, like the deadly sins themselves. One of the motivations is that world of excesses, weaknesses, rivalry, envy, invented lives, imaginary friends, uncontrolled egos. It is nothing new, it is the essence of being human, we all sin and we are all part of that vicious circle. These “Deadly Sins” are nourished by the unstoppable judgment of others, they are magnified more and more, they bind us. These skins are a tempting, addictive game with no limits. They can even be a source of happiness and satisfaction. In the end, “Deadly sins” is a metaphor of frivolity, of the vanity of life and of art in an ironic key, because reality is really more bearable and appetizing if we see it and live it with humor. For that, art is the best tool. It is a simple work with a simple message. Like life itself.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE SERIES
“The style of Houda Bakkali is unmistakable and derives from a sophisticated and often ironic mimesis of the popular contents of the urban environment, reworked through a lively chromatic pop range and an elegant and essential design. The artist seems to consider the urban scene as a festive visual spectacle in which the images imply a multiplicity of messages, of logical, emotional and symbolic meanings: metropolitan details coming from different cultures flow into her works, unexpectedly merging into a new balance without generating conflicts. Her language shares with the “historical” Pop Art the intent to arouse in the viewer an immediate response and the awareness that the multi-faceted cultural horizon in which we find ourselves living is a reality that cannot be evaded or denied, but must be investigated and understood in its formative factors and in the interconnections that animate its dynamics…” | JULIET ART MAGAZINE
POWERFUL WOMAN
Houda Bakkali’s art represents powerful women through a serene, optimistic vision, full of nuances and also full of energy and dynamism. Her award-winning series “Deadly Sins” fuses a frivolous but at the same time incisive vision where she ironically reflects on the vanity of our times. The canvases, the basis of Bakkali’s work, bring to life through digital technologies and make the public become part of her pieces and have fun discovering its different narratives through immersive experiences. A perfect symbiosis between traditional art and the most avant-garde where the dreamy vision, innovation and tribute to a hopeful future prevail where feminine, exuberant and sensual art is the protagonist. Her art is represented by sinuous lines, the volumes of flowers, polka dots and Mediterranean colors, intense looks and a simple style in the forms but intense in the background and recognizable as a whole.
