On March 25, the legendary Reial Cercle Artístic of Barcelona hosted the presentation of the newest artwork by Houda Bakkali, that was the first ever exhibition that interweaves mixed technique canvases with augmented reality and the woman figure as the protagonist in this iconic space that has more than 140 years of traditions and artistic legacy.
Bakkali highlighted the additive values that new technologies have for traditional art, new technologies such as augmented reality, as well as the new value and usefulness that digital art acquires in cultural, medical, educational, sports or tourist environments, among others.
“Digital art is versatility, it is innovation and it is imagination. A canvas limits the content to a certain space. Digital tools make it infinite and give it very important added values for all types of industries. Digital art allows us to create different narratives, different messages. It also allows us to measure our impact on the audience, carry out traceability and work with immediacy. It is change, dynamism and innovation. Essential concepts for traditional art to embrace and add to its own idiosyncrasy. Digital art opens new possibilities for artists and institutions and fosters greater closeness with art. In some way it democratizes it, makes it better understood and remembered. It makes it easier to decipher the messages of the works, learn about the lives of the artists and their creative spaces in a more didactic, more playful and closer way. The new digital artistic spaces and their multiple versions are a first step to delve into traditional art and make it possible for art to go beyond art.” Bakkali commented.
Inspired by Barcelona
During the presentation “Barcelona, art beyond art” Houda Bakkali made a special mention of Barcelona and the city’s Reial Cercle Artístic and highlighted the avant-garde vision of the city and its desire to embrace artistic innovation. “Barcelona is beauty, it is sea, it is passion, it is the future. It is a city that represents my work and also inspires it. Being able to be at the Reial Cercle Artistic today presenting my new artwork is a great honor, I am very grateful to the entire team of this iconic space for opening the doors to me, without a doubt, it is an extraordinary motivation for my career. They have welcomed my work with the class, respect and love of the greatest and that is the best of all recognition.” Houda said.
Art as a majestic show
Bakkali’s art beyond art understands art as spectacle, as a majestic show. At the Reial Cercle Artistic she showed this off through the immersive versions of her work that attendees were able to enjoy through augmented reality. Just as her canvases can tell stories, bring us closer to destinations or explain new concepts of art, they are also designed and created to bring us closer to their most festive and fun version of which the public can be a part and immerse themselves within their audiovisual layers. interactive and always colorful.
“The art that I create sometimes exists and other times it does not exist, but it always seeks to excite and surprise. My work goes against the current, that is, it goes in the correct current and is full of desire for life. When I think about it and create it, I make it do things and tell stories. That invites you to dream, to listen, to excite. I want to do very different, unique, not yet invented things that at some point have unlimited power to achieve everything. I constantly work on it, I know that the keys are in my head and nothing upsets me or distracts me. Everything is anecdotal. And if people ask me what I am, I always answer that I am not. I just do things. I do. And I am passionate about everything I do and that people discover it, understand it, enjoy it, love it and remember every detail. My work is always on time for everything. It always wants to be the first to make those who look at it happy. In it, only beauty, joy, party nights and sea mornings fit. It is tireless because it knows that there is no end, that one day it will be another work, it will reinvent itself with other stories and other perspectives and it will be able to conquer everything again. My art wants everything, it encompasses everything, it is for everyone and it is forever. Houda Bakkali comments on her own work and her vision of art.
